Amp Advice

I've been wanting to just get a Sunfire 5400/400~5 amp to run with my 2 M-500ts for my HT.

While scouring the usual sites, there seems to be a lot of variety on Carver amps out there which got me thinking. (which can be dangerous)

Lets say I decided to go a whole different route and just use some Carver amps instead of one sunfire for the HT. I have the Sunfire TGA III as a pre/pro. I will be sticking with 8ohm speakers.

What would be some good alternatives and setup that would be comparable to the Sunfire?
Whatever you come back with, should they be ran straight, vertical, horizontal, bridged, or mono? Please keep in mind that I would like to have the ability to switch to 2 channel when deemed neccessary.

I just figured this might be a good alternative to consider and it would make for a nice rack in the process.

Oh, I also have a 4.0t that could be used if needed. The 5400/400~5 would definitely make things easier but I'm open to suggestions.

thuffman03 would be a good one to ring in on this thread. He has all separates running his HT and recently picked up some Sunfire 300x2's Lucky bastard! I am in the same position you are in kind of holding out for a Sunfire 5 channel. I am also watching for a 4.0t in mint condition and if found that would change my mind and would probably go separates. I think thuffman03 could probably tell you what has worked for him and maybe what has not. Good luck.

If I had the choice to stay with the system I have or go to a 1 amp Sunfire I would most likely go with the Sunfire.

My current HT has 3 Carver TFM amps. 1 TFM 25 running my Left/Right. They are powering a set of Thiel CS3.5. I have 1 TFM15cb bridged into my center which is a Definitive Technology and another TFM15cb going into my rears.

It sounds very nice. I love the look of the power meters all lit up in a dark room.

The Sunfire 5400 that you have will out power all of my amps put together. It sounds good as a two channel and as a HT. IMO if you were to go with something like I have you won't be dissapointed but you are moving backwards in power and sound.

I just compared the Sunfire 300x2 to my TFM 55. I liked the sound of both but the Sunfire has the edge. The highs are a bit clearer and the lows are sharper and hit harder. I have to give the edge to the Sunfire.

I would probably already having this amp, use my TFM-15cb bridged for the center, pick up a TFM-35 (only because I have read Super reviews on this amp) to run the surrounds and if acquired the 4.0t for the mains. But, think I'll hold out for a Sunfire 5 channel.

Right now I'm using an m1.0t for my front L+R, an m200t bridged for my center channel, and another m1.0t for the rears(as soon as it gets fixed)

I have the Cinema Grand Signature 4x425. That thing is a beast. It will run everthing I've got even the big Amazings. There's one on Audiogon for $1600. I paid a bit more than that for mine. Maybe you could deal for $1400 or $1500. If you can afford it get it you won't be sorry. Art

That one is a good one to get.

Though depending on what speakers you have a 7x400 might be a better choice because you can biamp the L/R and still have 3 channels left over for the rest of the speakers. Just a thought.

Yea I had something in mind along those lines...but to do what I was thinking I'll need something in addition to the 400x7.

Well, I find the 400x7 is perfect for 5.1 with the mains bi-amped. To go 7.1, I have an A-500x for the back surrounds that I position when I come across that rare Movie that is in 7.1.
