Oppo BDP-83 Audiophile Upgrade

Oppo has announced an upgrade to owners of their BDP-83 Blu-ray player for those (like me) who use their 8-channel outputs for decoding new audio CODECs and for SACD output. Check THIS out.

Re: Oppo BDP-83 Audiophile Upgrade

Thanks Bill D for taking the time to post this. That Oppo sure is receiving some excellent reviews......How can you beat it for that kind of money ? I don't know if you can ?

The Oppo is certainly one impressive piece of kit.--------BILL(BB3)

Re: Oppo BDP-83 Audiophile Upgrade

Well, if you think of it as a Blu-ray player and a CD/SACD player, it doesn't really look that expensive.

Re: Oppo BDP-83 Audiophile Upgrade

Hey Kingman, you might as well order the Speical Edition now. I am going to keep mine the same without upgrade, I will be using the HDMI to TV and not the 8 channel. I think BillD uses the 8 Channel, you sending it in BillD? or do as they suggest; sell it on e-bay and buy the new one?? I thought that was funny.

Re: Oppo BDP-83 Audiophile Upgrade

Ummmm, no, I think I'll pass on the $299 modification -- I use the HDMI connection and am fine with it from the Oppo and through my Denon HT system (despite my compulsive acquisition disorder!)

Re: Oppo BDP-83 Audiophile Upgrade

Yeah, I don't think it will be attractive to anyone who uses HDMI audio.

Re: Oppo BDP-83 Audiophile Upgrade

Just received my BDP-83 special edition but won't be hooked up until the rest of the Sunfire gizmos come in. I'm curious about whether anyone has tested the stereo upgrade stuff yet. The box is just sitting there, calling my name...

Re: Oppo BDP-83 Audiophile Upgrade

Well X-Mas is here I just replaced my old player with an OPPO BDP-83SE still playing with it! Time will tell but I can see the speed in loading times on the Blu-ray are much faster than my old Sony Blu-ray! Eddie!

Re: Oppo BDP-83 Audiophile Upgrade

Congrats, Eddie. I hope you enjoy it. I certainly have enjoyed mine up to this point. Had to turn off Blu-ray deliveries on Netflix until I get it back.
