It is because when my girlfriend is upstairs in bed sleeping I can crank up the tunes just a tad while I have one of my many other girlfriends over at the same time and dismember them if I feel like it. That way I have an alibi.

The beam is softwood, probably pine. If it's covering a steel I beam.....no, you don't want to remove it!

Are you sure that is the S#? Mine are L3697 and R3697.
Some of the Plat's are not painted where the woofer's are mounted was looking into the S # where they started stop paiting the whole panel!

bsturgeon89, What's the story on that support beam? Real hardwood? Actual beam or decrative only? Looks nice; I'd go with open beams off of it as well...!

I haven't really made a close inspection but it looked like to me it was a support beam covered in real hardwood. I thought I saw a beam through the drop ceiling

I'm wanting to take it down but I'm not sure I can.

Sorry, but that beam is a load-bearing beam. If it is cut, you can expect very bad things to happen in rapid order, culminating in disaster of biblical proportions.

I was reading trying to educate myself on the subject of soundproofing/sound absorption. I suppose there are different perspectives on how to do this but I guess I was wrong in my thinking

I thought it would be a good idea to put insulation in the walls before putting up some sheetrock but I guess this isn't the case. My rationale was that the more material the soundwaves had to travel through the better dampening and soundproofing that would be achieved. From what I've read, its best to leave the wall hollow and double sheetrock the inside wall. I just can't see where it would hurt but I guess it would be a waste of money.

Anyone have any thoughts?

I guess another way you can look at, is why insulate an "interior" wall?? You are not insulating this wall from outside temperatures. Now as far as soundproofing, research different types of drywall/sound-wall material, or wall sound damping material. Good luck

Well.....I'm finally at a stage where I'd like to share some pics with everyone. Before I go any further I'd like to thank everyone I've talked with for their input and helping me out when I hadn't a clue sometimes. Well most of the time. Shut the fuck up Jag.

Some things you will notice....

I'm into lighting and have different set-ups depending on my mood and what I'm playing. One of the first things you will notice is the LED red rope lighting. This just puts off enough light to be enjoyable. In the back of the room mounted above the door are 6 black lights. The bass traps in the rear corners have a green emitting light mounted on top of them that displays as "stars". Some say they look like bugs running around but pretty freaking cool to say the least. I think so anyhow and thats all that matters.

I built bass traps for all the corners and also built some acoustic panels for the walls. The fabric happens to be curtains that worked out pretty well. They were doubled-sided so I took the backing off and they were suffice to use.

The ceiling tiles that made it look like an office are now painted black. It gives the room a nice effect.

There is still some cosmetic work yet to do. I have spikes coming for the SDAs and the sub. I have absolute black granite pads that I need to pick up for all 3 to sit on. I'm thinking that should look pretty damn sharp if I say so myself. I still need to trim out the door and the baseboards.

Other than that, that is about it. The wires are a mess because I'm still tweaking. When I hung the panels for the first reflection spots, the speakers were moved back. I have since moved them forward and will most likely have to move them a little bit.

That beast of a couch is being removed as soon as I can do it.

All in all, I think I did pretty good with what I had to work with. It might not be best sounding room ever built but I will say it sounds pretty damn sweet and juicy like these nutz. to me and according to Kingman that is all that matters

Any suggestions are more than welcome. I know I'm pushing the boundaries with the SDAs as far as setup goes.
