TFM-75 and Carver Plat. 4

Post by Don » Sat Mar 06, 2010 9:14 am

Always wanting to experiment for better sound. Current Scenario: Running a TFM-75 to power Plat's as front mains in my home threatre room. Running Legacy Focus as centers driven by bridged 806X. Want to try Plat's as center channels and Focus as mains to compare difference in sound. 806X which is handling center and surrounds is rated at 8 ohms and 360 watts a channel in bridged 3 channel mode. Really doesn't have the guts to drive Plat's. Concern may cook it also because of the impedance rating of only 8 ohms.

Can I Y connect out of the single pre-amp center to TFM-75 Right and Left inputs and then hook up each Plat to corresponding right and corresponding left channels without any damage to TFM-75 or will this cause a direct short? New territory for me and wanted to get some opinons before experimenting! #-o #-o #-o #-o

You can do pretty much anything you want on the input side. A Y out of your preamp to each channel of the 75 should work fine. I was going to suggest bi-amping with the 806x, but you have Mark IVs which only have one pair of binding posts.
It should sound like it isn't there!

I think that's one of the reasons Bob made the 75

These things are a really good way to split things up as you need to. They are solid so you don't have to worry about what kind of wire is in the splitter like you would buying the ones you find at B. Buy or R. Shack.

At CF '09' several of us experienced first hand the surprise you speak of Rabbit. Just ask Tom, Skip, Kingman, and the others who were present when we did an amp swap and hooked up Tom's Tyler Acoustics to our TFM-45! The look on most everyones face was something like this  and that was quickly followed by this =D> =D> =D>

Ok, I'm pissed that I keep reading about all the fun that has been had at the previous Carver Fests. I'm going to put an end to not experiencing the fun first-hand. [-(
