Every once in a while in life, one stumbles across a slice of heaven here on Earth. I happened to have been lucky enough to find such a slice. For my birthday this year, my friends, wife and I went to the cabins where CF is held. I brought my typical big slab's-o-meat with me for some good cookin'. One night we wanted to cook up some pork butt. It was an 8 pound chunk of meat that we were gonna cook up on the barbie'.
We went to a store early in the day and it was one of Bryson Cities worst hole in the wall dump of a store. I wanted some kind of BBQ sauce to go with the pork and I saw the cheap $1.00 kinds in the isles and I knew I didn't want that crap but that's all they had......until I went to the back of the store near the meat section and stumbled across this "Old Mule" BBQ sauce. "Hmmm", I thought. "We'll give this a whirl". It was made right here in the mountains of NC by a small family business, so it couldn't be that bad, right?
Got back to the cabin and applied salt and pepper to the outside of the pork and seared the outside before cooking it on the grill for about 4 or 5 hours. We pulled the pork and added just a 1/4 jar of the "Old Mule" to the pulled pork. Oh my dear Lord Jesus, was that the BEST pork I have ever had the pleasure to taste. Hands down, with nothing even coming close to it, this was now my reference recipe.
I wanted to share this rare slice of heaven with you all and I strongly urge you to get some. I found out this morning that they have a website to where you can order some online while slow cooking another pork butt [don't have a grill at the house at the moment].
One night at CF, I will cook this exact recipe for the gang. Trust me, you WILL be looking forward to it.
