HDMI Question

I've finally got my head around the idea that it serves no good purpose to use my TPG-5 to interpret the new audio codecs since it is merely a switching station. Would this also be true for video or would it serve any purpose to run it through this processor to improve video performance and use the 7.1 feature for audio.

Most here just run HDMI only to TV for video and keep the audio separate. If you use 8-channel audio from your source like the OPPO offers (8-channel out) this will decode all you need.

Re: HDMI Question

Most TV's will have enough HDMI inputs to acomodate most people. Some like to see the on screen setup of your Pre/AVR which makes it nice to have everything run through them.

Since I don't have any 1080p sources I still use component cables and at this point in time am not going to have anything to do with HDMI until I am forced to start using it.

Re: HDMI Question

For video I'm using HDMI direct to the TV, and Component video out of the TGP IV to the TV for OSD from it.

Re: HDMI Question

No sense running a signal through more components than necessary. More electronics and more cable. GO direct to the TV. The only benefit you'll get going to the TGP is source selection so the audio that gets turned on matches the signal. I switch my TGP manually because I might have multiple sources running at the same time to switch back and forth to.
It should sound like it isn't there!
