Rewired platinum conversions

Finally completed my speakers. Added 9.5 Cardis chassis wire to all the woofers and the main power leads from the binding posts to the crossover.Cardis 11.5 on the ribbon section. Changed out the original binding posts for the Cardis Rhodium gold set. Ordered 4 new woofers and changed out one woofer from each speaker. If you remember an earlier post the guy who sold them to me had stuffed insulation into one of them. Theother was my fault . I broke the little ceramic thing that you solder the wires to. Any way you can get these and replace them. There is nothing wrong with the rest of the woofer and I hate to throw it out. Another thing I found out by accident. I wanted to clean up the paint and add a little polish. I grabbed a bottle of my car polish. It was Raindance car polish with a dark car formula. I had used it on my wifes black truck a few years back. Really did an amazing job. Seemed to clean off all the gunk and left a beautiful shine. I also used one of those cheap little 5" electric buffers. Worked like a charm. Paid 500 bucks for the speakers. My solder guy about $200.the woofers were around 60 bucks a piece although living in Canada added a bit more to that. I also have 2 spares which is always a good thing. My wire, solder and binding posts were probably another $300. I also have a fair amount of wire left for other projects. Sureadds up doesn't it. Another thing I bought which will be good for all other projects was a Hexacon mini solder pot(800dgrees) You can check these out on the internet. Most wires are varnished and very difficult to tin. This thing will melt the varnish off and allow the solder to adhere. A word of caution about these pots My buddy who did the soldering bought one of the cheap chinese ones off Ebay. After 5 minutes flamesshot out of it and it was toast. Speakers sound better than my old originals and are much more efficient. This will really help me as my surrounds and center are from Martin Logan which were way more efficient than my old speakers. So now I have 2 sets Should keep me going for a while Art

Looking good, Art.
Political Correctness...defined

A doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

In a recent press conference, President Obama remarked, "If I had a city, it would look just like Detroit."

Re: Rewired platinum conversions

I have not been here for a while because I did a clean install of XP Pro on this machine and forgot about saving this link.......some reason I decided I better look at 4am

Thanks for reminding me that I need to repair my crossovers and my Phase Linear 4000 so I can remind myself of how things sounded at my place a couple decades ago.

:?

(barely missed 4:20  )

Way to go Art. I remember a couple of months back chatting with you about getting this done. Was it worth the wait for ya'?
In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence.

The best way to enjoy digital music reproduction is to never listen to a good analogue reproduction.

Nice.

While mine are in the back room waiting for Dynavox to get more woofs in, maybe I'll do some upgrades as well.
