No worries, Anders is always focused when it comes to electronics.


Thanks to all of you for the warm welcome and the kindness toward Anders..he's pretty special. I'd love to go to Carverfest next year! I have to admit, I was lurking to enjoy the photos of all that was going on, and was thrilled to see Anders arm in a pic during the amp build! lol I'm on the Vintage HiFi Forum as some of you know. Thanks again!

OK, Dell Windows XP approaching 5 years old. How do you STOP the redirecting to Ask.com! I have read this is a problem and have looked into what was discussed and all setting were ok. You click on a website and it redirects to Ask.com! Not always but often enough to drive you nuts! Also our flash player works (after we put it back to an earlier version) as the current version it will not work at all. Yes we run malware, ad-aware, cleaner, bla bla bla and use AVG Anti-Virus. Any idea's, thanks!

Maybe it's time to upgrade

Ask can just be uninstalled. It is not malware, but is useless.
You can get Widows 7 from Newegg for a hundred bucks, and it is worth it, not that XP is bad.

Get rid of AVG..used to be wonderful, sucks now. Avast! Free is the way to go, and if you're really silly it will talk to you like a pirate. Don't know what you're running for adware/malware but unless it's the following remove it: Spybot Search & Destroy, Malware Bytes, SpywareBlaster, CCleaner.

Run them in that order. Spybot allows you to lock your search preferences, and your host file. Keep them all updated and run them weekly. For the redirect download Hijack This http://download.cnet.com/Trend-Micro-Hi ... 27353.html run it, and take a look at this for guidance: http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=40735 It's a hook most likely causing the issue, and it's in your registry.

Keep Flash updated as there are security issues otherwise. Use this before updating to the new version: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html

Other than that use Firefox, you'll have more peaceful browsing. An upgrade wouldn't be a bad idea. Windows 7 is lovely. Xp is no longer officially supported as of July 11.

it is excellent for 99% of us.

The first thing I'd do is go to tools in your browser and find search providers or engines and remover or deni (ASK.COM) and dump all cookies and cache.
I use Windows 7 along with Firefox and Ixquick as my search provider. No problems at all. My wife still runs XP and I have her configured the same way. No problems. All we use is Microsoft Security Essentials along with the Fire Walls.

Actually some of the most innocent sites throw a virus on your puter without you even knowing it..and all you have to do is visit them. Avast! catches them nicely..but whatever
