My First Carver

I came across the Carver receiver as I was keeping an eye out for a different receiver for the tv/movie/fm system in the living room.
I listen to fm more than any other source so I moved it upstairs to the reading room to try for a while. I came across the Altec's so I may build up the Altecs with the AES tube amp by adding a CJ preamp and source in the upstairs reading room. Then the Carver 900 will go back downstairs.

Very nice...I really like the Altecs.

I moved the Altecs downstairs to the larger living/dining room powered by a Denon 2.1 receiver and Denon universal player. Surprisingly, it sounds very nice indeed, probably because of the Denon's smooth musical sound, and the larger room allowing the sound to develop fully before reaching the listener. All-in-all a nice enjoyable presentation. A better amp like the warm tubish Plinius or even a NAD would be a nice improvement. Here is a photo of the Altecs in their new residence.

Welcome, very nice setup.

A lot has happened to my 2 systems since my last visit many months ago. I have not expanded on the Carver system and have settled on its simplicity. It's tube-like qualities are very nice for FM and occasional CDs. I'd like to get the matching Carver cdp in steel gray from the same era as the Receiver 900. Incidentally, I think the Receiver 900 is their most beautiful looking receiver w/ a sleek wide, deep, and shallow profile, and the gun metal gray is to die for.

My 2 systems are as follows (only one is a Carver system).

I.) Small room listening system
Carver Receiver 900
Yamaha CDX450 (starting to skip)
DIY SEAS Froy 3 speakers design in Paragon Radiant cabinets (acquired when they went out of business in 2000)
Kimber Kable PBJ interconnect and 4TC speaker cable
Target Audio 5 shelf audio rack

II.) 2 channel HT in living room
McIntosh C37 2 channel preamp with parmetric EQ
McIntosh MR77 FM tuner
Denon DVD1930ci universal DVD player
Audio Electronics Superamp 2 tube power amp
Altec Lansing Model 15 loudspeakers
Various cabling by MIT, Kimber, Audioquest, and Dynamic Design
Sanus AV rack

Me too. There's a good audiophile friend of mine that lives about 20 minutes away to the East of you that I'd like you to meet as well. Maybe after the holidays...time is a little crunched right now with the holidays and all. BTW, did you happen to see the thread about me hitting the jackpot? I discovered a new [to me] high end private store down here in the Ballantyne area, if you are interested, we can go check that out as well.
