Possible Carver Amazings(for me)

\:D/

I just got an email from someone regarding an inquiry I must have sent months ago.

Carver Amazing Plat's $500
Ribbons and cab's are in great shape, but the drivers need new surrounds.

I told him $350 cash and he agreed.

It means a road trip for me and the Mrs. so as always, any thoughts?

Also, do I send them out for new surrounds, or purchase new drivers?

I never heard about any Surrounds being made yet so New ones are the only option from Oravox.

Re: Possible Carver Amazings(for me)

Congrats. I hope you have a Van or truck as they will take up a lot of room.

On the surrounds, I believe James (toymaker) posted that they had some. Check with him first.

If you can get replacement speakers reasonably that would be even better.

Either way, good luck & if you haven't had a set of Amazings be prepared to be...well Amazed !!

When set up in a large enough room & amply powered they are as good as it gets IMHO.

Re: Possible Carver Amazings(for me)

Snatch 'em up! That seems like a great price if they're in good shape. I believe Toymaker had a thread going for new surrounds. I was watching for a pair to show up locally for about a year and a half before anything reasonable showed up and by then I had already convinced myself that I just don't have the room for that type of speaker. I've been extremely happy with my Klipsches at this point and really love the fact that I can power them with my clock radio if I have to. If I had a larger listening area though I can honestly say that I'd give them a chance. Good luck! =D>

The sound of ribbon speakers is QUITE addictive!!! Took me 20+ years to break away from Apogee's. Vocals are un freakin believable ! Good Luck in you adventure into great sound! =D>

IMHO.

Will they fit in a Jeep Liberty (sister-in-laws ride)with the back seats folded down?

If not, we might rent something?

Re: Possible Carver Amazings(for me)

Yes but they're very shallow, if you could place them on their side, with some padding of course, then you'd only have to really worry about depth. You should of seen my AL-III s sticking out of the trunk of my girlfriends '06 Impala!!  Bring plenty of blankets, pillows and rope and you'll be just fine!!

Re: Possible Carver Amazings(for me)

Thanks guys!

We have a Mustang,ES300, and Saab convertible...none are hauling friendly!

Although, I did pick up a chair(for my mom) in the Saab, upside down with the back down in the seat and base up in the air.

We'll try the Liberty!

Re: Possible Carver Amazings(for me)

Both sound great- which pair need less work?
ALIII's require 85W/channel min- not sure what the rating is on the Amazings...
