The are an exceptional speaker. They are fast, articulate and dynamic. The 402 horn allows every nuance of music to come through. Like being able to articulate a whisper. Then throw some power at them and you can rock the house, literally. I like them. They are actively crossed over and bi-amped.

Holy crap look at all of those horns. I love that kitbashed JBL Altec combo you put together. How did you come up with that configurations? The cabinets are stunning.

That was a design from a speaker builder friend (JBL enthusiast) with some input from a JBL engineer.

They use JBL 2235H woofers, Altec 802-8G driver mounted to Altec 511B horns and the JBL 077 slot tweeters.

When these go back in the living room things will look different, because while they were out we pulled the carpet and put down mahogany floor.

ok, you got my interest in the curved sides of the cabinet. water and a jig to get that curve, or just weight, time and a jig. also what about the top section, what is in there?
duh,jbl.

FINALLY they are back playing in my living room. I was going to leave the grills off but you will notice the left dust cap is dented. That is compliments of our 6 year old grandson and his marshmellow gun. You can't leave kids alone for two minutes. :(

take some duct tape. the better the brand, the more stiky it has. now with just enough pressure to apply the tape on the dust cap, start pulling it back off in a sideways kinka motion so that you are pulling the tape vertically as well as horizontily. slow and easy. other tapes will also work, but i like duct the best. cheers

CNC baltic birch for the frame.

And four layers of kerf MDF to build up the sides.

Image

The kerf is then filled with glass beads (finer than sand)

The top section is just a frame work to surround the horn.

I have put up a build page on the JBL 2397 Smith horns shown in my sun room vintage system earlier in this thread.

That is absolutely wonderful, that's probably one of the best horn systems I have ever seen. I'm working my way through your systems and I should be able to comment on your Jubs in about three weeks.

I'm still working my way through your website as well.

Can I call dibbs on them for whenever you decide to sell them?

The best horn system I've ever seen was Chicago (live).
It should sound like it isn't there!
