Carver AV-705x amp: Is it common ground

Debating popping on a pair of Polk SDA 1C's, BUT I need to know if my Carver 705x is common ground (so I might be able to use them in my HT rig). If not then they would be replacing my Monitor 60's using either a Harman Kardon 3490 OR a Yamaha CR-240 (not sure if this is common ground)......

Thanks in advance.....

It's a 5-channel amp, so I'm guessing yes. I'm not certain it would have the balls to drive a pair of SDAs, though.

Re: Carver AV-705x amp: Is it common ground

I don’t know if the amp is common ground or not but Polk's are easy to drive I've driven them with a cheep 25w amp with no noticeable clipping or sound degradation.

Polk’s are a really nice sounding brand of speakers if you select them I hope they work out for you.

Good luck

Gotcha, so you would go with either the HK 3490 or the Yamaha CR-240 in the 2 channel rig then....

Re: Carver AV-705x amp: Is it common ground

Well, the design of that amplifier is a card per amp plugged into a bus. In inverting amplifiers, the signal needs to be "inverted" (hence the name) in one channel. In that all the amp modules are the same it is unlikely that some are made inverting and others not. And, without switches to "make them so", I fully believe that a pair of channels share the same ground.

One way to test is to put your ohmmeter on two of the output grounds and see if they read close to 0Ω.
It should sound like it isn't there!

I am also pretty sure it is a common ground. Though I would check it like Bill says!
Some cool Carver stuff!
