So are you going to stick with low power tube equipment for all your 2 channel ?
No, kind of, maybe, right now I am working on the input side of things. I am selling a bunch of stuff on Agon and using that money to have 3 Audio Note Dac 2.1 with USB built. I am also going to have 2 Audio Note L2 pre amps built, one with a phono stage and one without.
Here's my thinking. I have an AN DAC 3.1 with all of the signature upgrades. It is to die for and I almost did when I bought it. It was almost as expensive as a good pair of mono blocks. The new Eastern Electric DACs, which I also love, go for $ 1,100 bucks. I can get an Audio Note DAC 2.1 for around $ 1,500. The thing I like about the AN DACs is they don't do over sampling. The music is as straight and natural as you could expect. So that's why I'm upgrading those. One will go on the system with the A7's and the other will go on the system with the Sunfire Tube amp.
I am also going to replace the Bottle Head pre amp and probably the Sunfire Classic Tube Preamp. Those pre amps will be getting tube amps as well and they will probably be Carver when all is said and done. Depends on how much I can get sold and traded. For folks that are looking for Sunfire Classic Tube Preamps, the Audio Note L2 makes a nice alternative. You can get one without a phono stage for $ 1,250 or $ 1,350 or get one with a phono stage for $ 1,500. It's almost identical to the market for used Sunfire Classic Pre amps and they sound really nice.
Now, if I just hang some Carver tube amps off those I can have the best of both worlds. The big question will be how well does an EE DAC,Sunfire Classic Tube Pre amp stack up against an AN DAC and pre amp. The Sunfire set up with the 600 x 2 is a pretty awesome setup. Can't believe I am even thinking about getting rid of it.
I want to try to stay with a full range speaker set up. I have my Klipsch CF-3s or some heritage Klipsch La Scalas Cornwalls etc to fall back on.
So, the direct answer is, yes I want to stay more lower power for two channel, but it's not firmly decided. Today I enjoyed my TG IV, Sunfire 400 x 5, La Scala combo in stereo mode. Man that sounded good too.
