To get it to suitable levels, the Sunfire volume knob is well past 1 o'clock.

sounds about right with this pre.

volume wise what used to be 10/11 oclock on old pre is now 1/2 oclock on the sunfre.

there is a whole lot more left of the volume control,
it kinda took me by surprise also, both my sunfire pre's act the same volume wise.

Fantastic, thanks very much for setting me at ease here too with the volume knob settings. With the RCA cables in place of the XLRs this is improved and the bass is much better. I will try some other XLRs sometime in the near future. Thanks again guys!

Me too...supposed to be the better signal path with XLR. I may have a bad pair of cables, that's why I am anxious to try another set.

I don't know about how much better the xlr outs sound compared to the rca outs but the sound great on my Sunfire and they are definitely louder. Sounds like you have issues with your xlr cables or the xlr outs.

XLRs were twice as loud in my experience, long runs is what they were designed for, stage applications I believe.

Thanks Chris, what started out as a home theater room has certainly taken on more of an audio look.

Everything is working great now. I probably just had too many components and some mismatched impedance as was suggested. Just listening to the beautiful music now, yippee!

Gary, woohoo! The sound is fantastic and so enjoyable from just about any type of well recorded music on CD or vinyl. Thanks for all of your help and advice in selection and getting it sorted.

Picked up a pair of SDA2Bs locally and after a bit of reconstruction, cleaning, and detailing, they are in the system. Looking forward to some listening later today.
