Re: Clarity of Sound

I just re-did the 11' x 13' room so the Altecs are in the corners of the 11' side. Now the Altecs are farther apart and I can now sit 13' away too. Much better sound, better soundstage, and fuller sound w/ less brightness. *5*

Re: Clarity of Sound

Here is what the new arrangement looks like taken this morning while the morning sun was filtered through the blinds. (The low angle makes the stump looks like it obstructs the sound but it doesn't. The other JPG photos would not be recognized for some reason. I'm sure you get the idea of the small room I'm dealing with.)

Re: Clarity of Sound

Just a little equipment update. Sold the Mac tuner, so no need to use the preamp with only one source.
I'm using the CDP's variable analogue outputs direct to the tube amp to the horn speakers. Better clarity, detail, and soundstage. I've had a similarly minimalist system twice before and always liked the sound better quality. I will use the preamp again when I add a TT and HD tuner down the road.

Good day.

Re: Clarity of Sound

Thanks for you compliment mrhp.
The shelves are 2" thick maple butcher block. The design of the rack allows the shelves to recess between the horizontal frame members. I cut the top shelf larger above with a smaller section to recess into the rack for a future turntable.
You can purchase real maple countertops from various suppliers and cut to size, but I purchase a used table from SA made of 2" thick maple and cut the tabletop section to fit the rack.
