Re: TFM-75 serial#00001

Im a pic ho myself, love seeing everybodys stuff on here. Hoping the sub cabinets turn out like I think they will. Doing Oak with a medium dark stain. Got a guy working on them but he wont let me see till they are finished. I gave him a blue print of what I wanted and told him to run with it from there. Oh yea, here is my latest arrival.

Re: TFM-75 serial#00001

Beautiful woodwork!

I'd wait at least 48 hrs for the varnish to cure throughout. Otherwise you risk the woofer edge sticking to the varnish that's not cured underneath.

Mount the woofer on the outside, right? Are you using any stuffing/insulation? For ported enclosures like that, the sound absorbing thin foam works well glued to the walls...

Re: TFM-75 serial#00001

Yes the woofers mount to the outside. Ill get a pic of that operation when we put them in. Those W7's mount really strange. I got 5lbs of stuffing and some 1/2 inch thick acusta foam thats just peel and stick. Gonna experiment with what works best. All my Dalquist speakers are stuffed full and the ported ones have incredibly deep base for their size. So it seems more is better. I may stuff one and not the other, then do a left right comparison.

Re: TFM-75 serial#00001

From what I understand, the stuffing is supposed to be loose laid as in not packed tight, just enough to fill the space. Also, it slows the internal air movement, tricking the woofer into acting like its in a larger space then it has and will change the tuning a bit, might want to refer to factory recommendations as that's a factory spec box. Lining the cabinet on the other hand is a whole other issue but if the material is a half inch thick, I'd be concerned again that it will subtract from the internal air space and change the tune a bit, maybe both together works out? I don't know. :-k

Re: TFM-75 serial#00001

We did make the box about 1" bigger everywhere to make room for the cabinet lining. Ill probably line both and the try the stuffing loose and tight. Gonna be fun no matter what!

Re: TFM-75 serial#00001

Wow! Thats what Im talking about! I only got one hooked up and its shaking the house...lol

Im not gonna need the rifle, this thing has plenty of kick :D :D

I will put up some picks tomorrow. One thing I noticed big time is how clear and undistorted the highs are now that I took 150hz and below away from the DQM-9's. Kind of a home made bi-wire setup.

Re: TFM-75 serial#00001

.....more akin to biAMP than biWIRE....

Personally, I'd consider lowering that crossover frequency....subs should be invisible.....& they aren't above 50 hz....

Re: TFM-75 serial#00001

Yea I figured the 150hz might be a little high but had to start somewhere. Im using the Harrison FMod inline crossovers. 150hz and down to the PT-2400 and 150hz and up the TFM-75. Its working pretty good for now. Soon as I learn how to work the Sunfire TGP II it has a built in crossover that is adjustable down to 80hz which should help alot.
