The kapton material is available from 3M I believe, but they only sell in GIANT rolls (like 3000 feet or so). James (Toy Maker) may be able to give you more info.

hello ribbonspeaker, welcome aboard. good luck for sure as the mylar replacement for the panels. i just had a 30" done by alex and james this past week. what james uses is manufactured and sold in a large quantity that is in the thousands when the sauters order a new batch. you have taken on a real undertaking i am sure to get it done in a small quantity. please keep us informed on how it comes out. cheers

Instead using Kapton, I am using Mylar 6 micron from Ebay. I also running 2 aluminum strip instead of one as the original . It very a fun project. I am using the aluminum foil from Costco food court which is about 6 micron. I was able to cut 3mm strip. However it is only 13 inch long so I glued them together by the automotive rear window defroster . I will post the pictures before and after sometimes next week

Problem solved.

I got the aluminum foil 11 micron thickness from the local japanese store. it turns out Japanese use the thinner aluminum

it is very cheap 1.5$ for 22mx25cm.

Our carver aluminum ribbon is 13micron .

I was able to cut into 3mm with 2 meter long by folding the sheet 2m (coated with veg oil) .

then I folded in to 1 piece : 1 side is about 1.1 the other is 90 cm and so on to the final 25 cm .

Then I used the paper cut and slammed it down to the size I want.

note: oil coating between the aluminum to make it easy to seperate after cutting and fold uneven is also help .
