SD/A 490t CD Drawer Issue
SD/A 490t CD Drawer Issue
Just picked one of these up, very impressed with the sound. I also have the Jolida tube CD player and they sound similar to me. I am having an issue with the drawer not opening unless a CD is loaded in it at all times. No CD, the drawer won't open unless I remove the cover and manually assist it, then it glides right open.
In reading a couple of older threads, this seems to be a common issue. I could use some guidance and clarity around how to repair it. I see that some pics are posted that indicate a little belt may be worn or gone and by pulling the drawer and replacing it, may solve the problem.
Guys, is this correct or is this only if the transport drawer won't open at all? Will this take care of my problem and be fully functional even without a CD in the drawer?
In advance, thanks very much for your assistance!

Re: SD/A 490t CD Drawer Issue
Typically its the rubber band belt thingy that stretches out. With the cover off you should be able to see the motor spin and the belt not catching if that's what it is.

Re: SD/A 490t CD Drawer Issue
I believe if you tap the drawer while hitting open it works. I know another local guy with that player and it has the same problem. Will ask him what he does and get back to you. Also if this is the one from the Ft Wayne Craigslist without a remote I know where you can source one

Re: SD/A 490t CD Drawer Issue
Thanks Mbskeam, it was your thread and those great photos I looked at previously. So, dumb question - if the belt is toast, the drawer will still open with a CD in the tray, but it won't open empty?

Re: SD/A 490t CD Drawer Issue
the tray is 2pc.
with a cd in the center part is pushed down, I think its easier for a stretched belt to not slip and overcome the cam ramp that the inner tray moves on.

Re: SD/A 490t CD Drawer Issue
Thanks again for the great pics and detail. Tray came right out, trip to Walmart produced a whole bunch of "belts" for less than $3, great fit too and the install was easy. I chose the pink belts so my girls can use the rest for their hair:) Let me know if anyone needs a few, happy to drop a couple in an envelope.mbskeam wrote:the tray is 2pc.

But the same problem still exists as I can't get the drawer to open without a CD in the tray. Works perfectly with a CD in. I even played around with bending the tab from the tray assembly that rides on the cam ramp, up and down and a little angled either way. Too much bend on the tab and it won't open at all even with a CD in the tray. Take a look at the picture pointing with the screwdriver for the tab and cam ramp. With a little nudge it opens right up. I am sure the belt isn't slipping now.
I got it opening perfectly now with the CD in, but won't open without an assist when it's empty. Any thoughts guys? I know it's perfectly functional with a CD in, but I just can't quite until it's right, thanks.

I cleaned the old grease off and then regressed, then cleaned that off when it didn't work and applied some real slick silicone spraymbskeam wrote:is the motor stalling? No stalling that I can see or hear

Looks like you need a smaller rubber band type belt like the ones below I used...

Walmart, believe in the gal hair section. I think the cloth covering is making yours slip.

Re: SD/A 490t CD Drawer Issue
Kingman, perfect, thanks man. I grabbed some of the rubber style and it works perfectly! Woohoo, back in business.kingman wrote:Walmart, believe in the gal hair section. I think the cloth covering is making yours slip.
Thanks again Carver guys, you are the best.
For anyone out there with this drawer issue, HIGHLY recommend doing this. It takes about 10 minutes and is a breeze. Took me more time to locate the correct rubber bands by far. You can get them in the Pharmacy section at Target or Walmart. I wound up with a little package of 3 sizes and the middle one fit nice and snug on the idlers. As I tried, the fabric style DO NOT work, they slip. I cleaned the idler pulleys off with some rubbing alcohol, stretched the rubber band around them and back in business. I went ahead and used some white lithium grease on the cam and ramp and it operates like new with or without a CD in the drawer. Fixed for $4!
