Better yet...why don't we gather up the wire and sufficient breakers and do it ourselves? We could run a so called drop cord of wire with a plug in attached directly from the breaker box.... that way it's temporary...
I have about 100' of spare 10 gauge 4-wire. That shit is EXPENSIVE! I think I can scrounge a 30-amp breaker, too.

I'm sure Duke Power wouldn't like us "stealing" power from them, which is exactly what will happen if we tap straight off the transformers. You can always tap after the meter but that's the same thing as using the breaker.
Edit just make sure to keep voltages the same, split the "legs" for 230v circuits.
