Has anybody heard the original Silver Seven against the new Cherry 180's or the 305 Black Beauties? If so how do they compare?

Hopefully Brian will pick up the ball on this one, as he has owned the 180's and now has the 7's.

Yes! It would be nice to know how the newer amps stack up against the Legend!

Re: Silver Seven vs 180 or 305
I have a set of 305's and have heard the Silver Sevens on many occasions. We actually had both a set of 305's and a set of Silver Sevens in our cabin last year at Carverfest.
IMO, they have a very simmular sound. We were driving my set of ALIII's and would switch back and forth until we started having issues with the Silver Sevens. I liked the sound out of both and thought that they both had a great sound stage, and provided plenty of power to drive my speakers.
Hope that helps.

Some cool Carver stuff!

Thats any easy question the 305's stack up VERY WELL. but the Legend is still the king.
I ran my set of Cherry 180's with the best KT88 tube out there (IMHO), the Shuguang Treasure KT88z. What a great KT88 tube.
Then I switched them out to the KT120's. What a nice improvement in sound. The tightness of the bass was so improved.
Still open and airy, with a great sound stage. (Tinpan chip in)
When I got my set of Silver Sevens, they had 22 year old KT88's in them, and I found they lacked the presence of the new Cherry 260's (KT120 tubes in a Cherry 180)
All the notes where there, all the vocals where there with a sound stage so big, but still did not sound correct no sparkle. The sound was similar to the Cherry's
So I changed all the KT88 (30 tubes) to KT120's just like on the 305's.
NOW what a nice improvement, the rock solid sound stage, clean crisp highs, piano that just floats in the air and yes SPARKLE.
I am very lucky that I own a set of speakers, that can and do show small differences in the power chain before them. Also they will take nearly
unlimited power from the Silver Sevens. (yes I did take out a tweeter, but that was a real bad tube)
As for power, the Sevens never run out, concert levels in my living room.
This is my biased opinion the Silver Sevens are the KING.
Daves needs to chip in as he has heard them both, and owns nearly all the Silver seven that where made.

Brian- you suck!
You have too many Carver tube gear options- send me the 180's and I will make sure they get a good workout now and then!
