New power cables for the TFM-75??

Post by MRHP » Sun Aug 05, 2012 10:44 pm

I have lived with the lamp chord power cables on the 75 because there is no way I would cut on this chassis. But after being prodded by snoop to do something about these cables I took the lid off and think it might could be done with no modifications to the original sheet metal. Here is a couple pics.

The blue and brown wire in the foreground are connected to the right channel power cord. My fingers are pointing to the other two wires(left channel) across the other side of the amp. The front of the amp is to the right.

Internal power wires running toward the power cords down the left side of the amp.

Yes what do you have planned? It looks really tight in that amp. I would consider contacting Roland or Rita's to do the mod for you if possible.

Your pictures are useless. What's the ass end look like where the cord comes in? That will determine whether you can add an IEC.

If you've got the room, cutting the chassis is the last thing you should concern yourself with.

I recommend Furutech IEC's.

Can you say shoehorn? You don't have enough room for dust. I would let a professional do this one. I'm not that adventurous.

I like a good challenge!......bwahaahahahaha
And speaking of challenge Im gonna shot gun this computer if it doesnt start cooperating with me...lol

Im thinking about building a bracket that will bolt to the rack mount and hold the plug ins and running the internal wires out thru the existing holes to the external mounted plug ins. Maybe I can even make it look half decent too. My question is, what kind of wire should be used to run between the new plug ins and electical boards??? It might as well be the good stuff since all I have to do is route it and plug in. Does this make sense, Im not good with tech talk...lol

Here is the back.

I think if I owned TFM-75 serial number #0001, I'd leave it alone. Let it stay original.

Buy another TFM-75 if you want to modify.

Trust Bob !

If the existing power cords weren't good enough Bob wouldn't have used them.

2x ^^^

Almost a crime... If I could not 100% undo the change, I'd not do it. Or have it professionally done at the least.

I have to agree on this one. I don't think you want to mod #001.

Has any of you well-connected gents ever asked Mr. Carver his opinion on upgrading power cords?

Yes, I believe "they" have. If memory serves, I believe the consenus is that the Bobfather is not a big believer in "magic wire properties". But what does he know?  But just like RadioEng knows more about digital sampling theory than those that actually build DA/AD converters, there are those here who think they know more about amps and PC's than Bob does. They believe their "ears" and refuse to consider all of the evidence re phyco-accoustical effects, etc., etc. Whatever; who cares? To each his own...but I tend to go with the true experts in these fields and not "$800 PC salesman"...nor "radio techs".
