I'm not necessarily looking for loud sound but big sound. . The horn drivers are 115db efficiency rating and rated at 40 watts. The bass drivers are 107db and 74 watts. By the time you run them through the crossover, we're probably looking at only about103db for the combination. As you can see we won't be putting a Lightstar or a Sunfire on these. So far the Carver Baby Black Beauty is doing an admirable job. I still have a lot of tweaking to do and I want to finish the wings this weekend.

Basically where I am at is as follows: I have more than enough volume with 20 watts. The bass is a little over powering which tells me the EL84 tubes work well for that. The mid range isn't quite where I want it, I don't know if I'll have to go to a 300b tube to get that sound or not. I still have to adjust the speaker positioning and finish the wings, then I can adjust the crossovers to see if I can even the sound out a little. I have a pair of expert ears over today, maybe he can help with the balance a little.

Whooaaa.... I had a buddy come over yesterday and help me with my wings. All I can say is, un-fricken believable how much of a difference this made. I still need to finish making the side braces and paint them but the wings definitely lower the bass and smooth it out.

These speakers fill this MASSIVE garage with real authority. Not blasting loud either--I don't think we've use more than 2-3 watts yet. I measured @ 79 dB with probably 1/2 watt output from 36 feet away~

They dig down LOW, too.

The Carver mini Black Beauty at 20 wpc would probably take the garage down....
