Fuckin "A"!!!!!

Finally got the backs of the wings painted and the Altec 1003 multicell horns finished and mounted.


I still have one more coat of paint to put on the front of the wings and then the painting will be done. I am pretty much sick of painting. In case you were wondering, it takes almost 2 gallons of paint to do 2 coats on a pair of A210 cabinets with wings

Thanks to the shadows's advice I spent a little time adding some par lamps and the lighting definitely adds to the ambiance


This configuration, with the wings and the 1003 multicell horns makes these the Altec A4 model


I added a Carver C5 preamp; Oppo DV981, for SACD's; my refurbished Elac turntable, though it may not sound very nice; Grant tube Dac, and my Sonos. For power we are using the Caver Baby Black Beauty. Rabbit and I have been marveling at the sound from these speakers. I thought it worthwhile to mention the Carver tube amp has performed flawlessly through all of these transitions. I would expect the Carverfest amps would be very capable as well. We've been sitting back in amazement at the big sound coming from these speakers and the different horn drivers we've tried. I have to say I really like these EL84 tubes and I'll bet Bob had no idea one of his tube amps would be the heart of a system like this.

The new horn drivers definitely added some needed (IMO) "sparkle" to the top end. Robin said this driver is good to 10k hz whereas the old one only went up to 8k hz. We've played around with horn angles, listening position, etc. & believe it's just about dialed in perfectly. We have a difference of opinion on whether to turn the horn volume up a smidge, but perhaps that's mostly due to different hearing abilities~

I am, i thought i was the queen of girly. I bet that just sings and sings, i now have a new goal down the road as i have always loved horn loaded anything.

Now is the perfect time to post, that's how we all learn and keep moving forward
