Well we have twin black babys in the house...

Post by MRHP » Tue Jun 18, 2013 9:13 am

Thanks to jjpkd    or should I say Carver Baby Black Beautys...20wpc. :D
I bought one from Jesse a couple months ago and obviously 20wpc is not gonna cut it for MrHorsepower...lol So Jesse turned me on to another one with low hrs on ebay. I tell you what though just one by itself in stereo mode is very very impressive. Kind of lively and quite musical. They sound alot like a lightstar of course with out the low end grunt.

One problem I encountered with the ebay amp is the mono/stereo switch. Long story short it appears to be wired backward. In stereo it runs mono out the right channel/in mono it runs stereo just fine. Which is exactly opposite of what the manual says. The one I got from Jesse works exactly as its supposed to. I am currently running the (backward wired) one on the right channel with the switch flipped to stereo, as a mono block and it works perfect.

Has anybody else seen this issue?

BTW the turn table sounds s.w.e.e.t. with them mono blocked giving me 40wpc!!!

Glad to hear you're happy with the set! =D> =D> That was pretty much my impression of the amp as well, somewhere between the Sunfire and Lightstar sound. Basically I thought it did everything (within its power limits obviously) that the Sunfire's do with a hint of more realism leaning toward the Lightstar sound.

This thread is going better than I first expected

Jesse when you say "a hint more realism"...thats the exact words I was looking for when I was wanting to describe these amps.

Also rolled in a set of Douglas Connection premium RCA's with the Xhadow connectors from pre to amps and BAM! The room filled up with a robust yet finessed presintation. Those RCA's are no joke...very impressed.

Im going to run the new ones with the smaller Xhadow connectors from the pre to cdp so they will fit the close spread on the cdp. Its gonna be awesome from what ive experienced with the bigger Xhadows. Then later Im gonna have to have two sets of them from TT to TT pre and then TT pre back to Sunfire pre.

Ive almost got a deal worked out to sell on of the kids kidneys on the black market....I mean what the heck, they are young and should be just fine with one good kidney left.
