Balance control a little off

Post by brit01 » Sun Mar 23, 2014 9:46 pm

Hi guys,

Been a while since I've been here. Hope everyone is well.

Had to say farewell to my well served tfm55 and ct3 today. Needed the space and cash. Found a good buyer who knew what he was looking for.

We noticed a slight issue with the balance control.
One side on the tfm55 balance doesn't quite shut off when all to one side. When the knob is gently touched it corrects itself but only when touched (slightly pushed).

Maybe just dirty contacts on the control? Are they sealed controls or can cleaner be sprayed in?

Cheers

The pot can be cleaned with some detox , if it is beyond that, it can also be bypassed for a more detailed sound i was told by rolland years ago. A real simple mod to bypass if cleaning or replacement are not the cure.

Thanks guys.

I'll inform the new owner. I never used the balance controls and not sure why he wanted it.
Better to bypass it true.

Detox is what a lot of us need more than Deoxit...

hmm the buyer took the tfm-55 to a local tech (to check some stuff and change the lamps) who has no doubt never seen or touched a carver in his life (I think I have the only tfm amp in existence here in Uruguay), and came back saying the sound cuts out at 50% volume!.
50% of the pre or power?? Haven't got much detail yet.

I have had it for 6 years and pushed it very hard and it always gave me joy. What the friggin geeze has the tech been doing?
Maybe been testing this power amp with 380 watts with some small speakers and the speakers are cutting out??

Hope he hasn't damaged the amp! :-({|=
