Japanese workmanship is excellent, better than most countries. Sorry, but it's true. It's too expensive to build in Japan these days. So your Japanese gear is first rate stuff.

Some day, China will get their act together. I think they are already capable of building first rate stuff also. They do have the top two speaker building facilities in the world!

Anyone ever hear of a brand called Bennytone? That is the name on European M-500t units. Beautiful champagne colour casework. Japanese outputs and drivers are the best. On Semi is building the ring emitter technology now with their new devices (under lic. from Toshiba??). Finally, wonderful US transistors. I am hoping that Sunfire is using the MJ2119X series parts.

There are no poorly made Carver units. I didn't like things like the M-200's to work on. PM 2.0 amps are also a pain to get into the power supply area. Still, all are well made.

According to the Sunfire Whitepaper, he developed the tracking downconverter initial Lightstar version in 1992, took a sabbatical in December 1992, and left Carver upon his return. Sunfire began in 1994, but he was on his own in 1993

Don't know about the pro side, but the TFM's were mag coil, while the A series were not.

Latest acquisition... HR-722 receiver, made in Japan.

I've seen a HR-752, also from Japan.

Interestingly, the manufacturing seems to have switched in the early 90's -- the HR-732, HR-742, and HR-772 are from Korea!
