Re: Toy Maker's Toys............
I dono.... it's all $$ and marketing...
I don't have a ton of $$, and I suck at marketing....
If I made them myself, I'd have to wholesale them no lower than $3,000 a set.... retail in a store/shop would be like $6,000 a pr.
Unless I went the China rout... then I could wholesale them around $1,000-2,000, but would have to have a ton of $$ for a production run over there....
I dono... I also don't know what people would reallt think of them. I know they are loud like I like... but I know they are not what the "majority" would like. That would actually be an easy fix... just put a normal 4ohm ribbon back in them... and you'd have a set of AL-III's with a pretty chassis and a shit load of bass...
They are kind perty

Re: Toy Maker's Toys............
What's different about the ribbons over the 48" stock ribbons in Silvers and AL-IIIs?
It should sound like it isn't there!

Re: Toy Maker's Toys............
Mine are bullet proof !!!
I had custom Kapton made for my ribbons... so far, I have dumped at least 1000w into each one, and haven't fried them yet. The only real problem is they are now 1.8 ohms each.... Amp friers.

Re: Toy Maker's Toys............
That's one helluva chassis cooling fan, James!

Ya know, I was wondering; if you drive your ribbons hard a lot, would it benefit to put a small cooling fan blowing into them from the back side (like the 12 volt computer fans)?

Re: Toy Maker's Toys............
probably not... It'd be like putting a fan blowing on your tubes on an amp... probably needs to get hot.
Re: Toy Maker's Toys............
Toy Maker,
Why not build a second set and submit them for review to some respected publication? A positive review coupled with custom orders could pay up front for production. Maybe even demo them at CES or some such convention.
