Carver 1999-2004 - What happened?

Post by bigerik » Wed Sep 17, 2008 11:50 pm

Wonder if someone could point me in the direction of any info on the Carver Corp from 1999 (when Bob took it over again) until 2004 when it was sold to Phoenix Gold. Looked around but haven't seen much of anything.

I do remember seeing a Carver HT receiver in 1999, I think it was. Maybe 2000. Really beautifully made piece of equipment. Then it all kinda vanished....

I believe you're referring to the C1000 receiver. James has one.

Wabbit, wasn't that simply a repackaged Sunfire Cinema Receiver that Sunfire custom built for Carver?

From what I understand, there were quite a few differences between the Sunfire TG and the Carver C1000. Can someone confirm/refute?

Yup!
Thats the one I saw. Anyone know if they sold many of these? I wouldn't think so considering the outcome.

Bob said a friend of his designed it... I guess it was not a Sunfire design. It is close to the Sunfire Ultimate Receiver, but not the same.

Lots of great info there, but I was more thinking of the company as a whole.

Interesting.
Wonder what Bobs thoughts were around saving, or rebuilding, Carver. Seems to have been very much on the back burner.

I remember that the two audio "salons" that carried Carver became dissatisfied with the company around '91-'92 and dropped them from their lines they carried. I believe that there was the opinion that Carver was going more Lo-fi with products that in their estimation had become "cheaper" and thus inferior. I don't remember the specifics of the conversations I had then because it was so long ago but I do remember the winds of change were blowing for the company and it was not all positive. Maybe that was here in B.C. It would be interesting to hear from other people with stories from that time period.

use the SEARCH button up on the upper right corner; there is a ton of information already posted here. For example:
