Re: HRDROKN's System.....

Hey Guys....

This is what I have in the works... hopefully this will be a good addition! Not quite done yet as this project has had missing pieces and the directions are more geared to those with experience, but with that said... Phil Marchand has taken care of every situation like a champ!

Very nice looking. Is that kinda a general purpose board that you populate as much as you need? It looks like it could have 3 more channels.

Yes, it can be configured from a 2-way to 4-way... along with that you can run notch filters in each section.

Re: HRDROKN's System.....

This was the only pic I had on hand... those two little green boards are my 3KHz notch filters that I'm going too try out to tame a little bit of those Klipsch horns at high volume?

Almost forgot to add this pic....

All this has been a real learning experience.... looking back at the changes that I have made, I feel that the one thing that didn't really sit well was the addition of the Bob Crites crossovers for the KLF30's. I feel that the upper frequencies were improved (much more detailed), but the lower end sounds dampened. So I'm looing forward to eliminating that with the electronic crossover.

Re: HRDROKN's System.....

If you can change the value of the notch filters, this might be the perfect ribbon crossover for bi-amping Amazings. You could make a Clearview+. You could even tame the resonant frequency of the bass.

BTW, it looks like you have a lifetime supply of solder flux!

The values can be changed and that was one of the things I kind of liked about this piece.

And yes... plenty of flux! :-$

Re: HRDROKN's System.....

\:D/

I finished up my project crossover and hooked her up yesterday for a test drive.... it seems to work as entended. I was kind of looking at it and wondering if it was working, but when I shut either of the amps down it was very apparent that it was functional. I did notice just a little more noise, but no more or less than the BBE-2002R processor.

I think I will give it some time to break in, but I do see that the amps aren't working nowhere near what they were before. So bottom line there is I can play as loud and as long as I want!

Also would like to thank RichP as he suggested to try the 3KHz notch filter with my Klipsch and my initial impression is that it made a real differeance for the better! The mids are less forward at elevated volume levels. Nice!

Re: HRDROKN's System.....

Hey Guys....

I finally got around to knocking one of the things off my list of things to do... LOL.

I swapped out the woofers in my KLF30's (one of the woofers had been crackling) with a set of Eminence Delta-12LFC at 4ohm wired in series directly to my modified TFM-35x. Running the crossover at 825Hz with a 3K notch filter on the HF... still breaking them in, but I can honestly say this has been a nice improvement in overall sound, not as punchy, but they go noticeably lower.

Interesting that my amp is indicating (at the meters) more watts vs volume control and doesn't seem to be generating any more heat... anyone have a thought on this?

Thanks!

Re: HRDROKN's System.....

I'm going to replace the midrange diaphrams next... ordered them from Bob Crites. Should have them in a week and want to get them in before we move so I can compare the sound.

Quote from their website...
This is a high quality replacement diaphragm developed for us. It tests very good in comparison to an original Klipsch diaphragm and better in a couple of ways. It, has slightly smoother frequency response, it extends a bit higher and it rolls off smoother without a bounce back at higher frequencies.

Re: HRDROKN's System.....

Interesting read... I also have the KLF-30s and have been thinking about crossover/ woofer replacement. I've already added the titanium tweeters and mid range replacements. Did you try running the active crossover before you switched drivers? I've talked with Bob Crites a couple of times about building custom 2-way passive crossovers for the upper end but so far he just wants to sell me the complete set. I was thinking about ordering his driver replacements he has on eBay for $200 a pair. I would only do it though if he would work a deal on custom crossovers at the same time. Where did you buy your woofer replacements, how much were they and do you reccomend them? Thanks.
